Councillor Nick Morphet

I grew up in the Tyne Valley and have been passionate about environmental issues since an early age.

After leaving school I studied zoology and veterinary science and I then spent seventeen years working in veterinary practice, much of this time being spent working to improve animal welfare.

In 2015 I re-engaged with environmental issues and became more political, and it didn’t take me long to establish a deep connection with Green Party politics. I gained political experience by standing as a paper candidate in Byker in 2016. In 2018 I gained an MSc in Wild Animal Health, but before beginning a career in wildlife medicine I took a break to work as a care worker and to represent the Green Party in the 2019 General Election. The following year I offered to stand as a target ward candidate in the 2021 local elections.

A successful Target To Win campaign led to me becoming County Councillor for Humshaugh and leader of Northumberland County Council’s Green Party group, a job that I take very seriously. Being group leader gives me the opportunity to influence decisions and promote the politics of People and Planet.
